Artificial Intelligence In Education

As artificial intelligence advances through the lifetime of the classroom and school year, students find themselves more engaged in class lessons and material that teachers assign for students. However, as generative AI becomes more straightforward, some students can use it to answer assignment prompts or even write notes and do easy learning due to the significantly decreased effect of the learning process and failure to meet academic integrity.

Benefits of Artificial Intelligence

Create Accessible Content

Teachers are now using AI to generate tasks for their classes, such as making learning materials simple for other students to understand and building connections. This is seen in classrooms, especially with students who are on a different reading level for speaking a different language.

Teachers implemented AI tools to support by:

  1. Changing the reading level: adjusting students' reading scores depending on their reading struggles.
  2. Translating content: this is especially helpful for students with a language barrier into their language without needing to be struggling.

This helps reinforce inclusiveness and build students' engagement in activities. After teachers get assistance with AI, students can maintain their attention on classwork without any issues and are unable to read or write in a language they don't even understand.

According to Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Computer, mentation that Artificial Intelligence + actual Intelligence = Increased Student Engagement. This will increase the likelihood of students' motivation to learn. These activities were tested with other AI models like ChatGPT and Gemini. The different programs gave out similar results.

Gather Facts Quickly

In the past, students would have to spend lots of time going to the library, and using card catalogs, and spend time gathering information. In society today, students are able to go online(using AI resources) . The teachers encourage students to use AI to spend less of a headache looking for things and more doing it.

Tutoring and Test Preparation

Many students enjoyed using AI because it keeps students more engaged, especially with their features that they have such as previewing and re-evaluating information. After students use AI, they are able to design a study guide that will boost their engagement because they can be re-creative on how they want their information to look like and contain.

Your Creative Thinking

After doing the resources, students must use their mental capacity - in the book it refers to "actual intelligence" and changed it into something creative as their own, for instance:

  1. A presentation
  2. A speech
  3. A comparison paper
  4. A creative project

Impact on Artificial Intelligence

Student Use of ChatGPT

In 2023, an edtech company that RM Technology names discovered that two-thirds (67 percent) of “secondary school students” are convinced that they use chatbots like ChatGPT to write essays or complete tasks. ChatGPT is also used for “numerical problems (42 percent), drafting English essays (41 percent), translating the text into different languages (25 percent), writing poems (24 percent), completing physics work (20 percent), brainstorming history essay topics (18 percent), creating art (18 percent), and taking science tests (18 percent).”(Fearn 2024)

Two of the thirds from the responses from RM Technology analze that AI inrcrease their grades.

For example:

  1. For instance, James, a 17-year-old student from Ottawa (Canada), depends on ChatGPT for background information on a specific research topic and searches for different reading resources. This gives him the extra time to plan ahead and write down the outline for his essay. But he doesn't depend on AI to do his whole assignment for him, like writing the entire paper.
  1. Fiore is 17 years old and a student at Delaware in the US. She used ChatGPT to generate several entire essays to finish her assignment. Despite knowing that she was "cheating," he continued until the teachers noticed and failed him.

Lack of Human Engagement

If people kept asking AI to do their homework or assignment outlines, it would prevent them from forming people connections with people - which they need interaction in real society. This lack of face-to-face interaction creates challenges for students to understand anyone or understand new information.

Students Are not learning

  • 60% of students use ChatGPT for writing essays(highest Rate)
  • 20% Ai to complete physics work (Lack on lazyness)
  • 41% Used AI to write their English essays drafting
