The Library and Museum are named in honor of the founder of the order, Father Matthew Jankola, who distinguished himself as a promoter of Slovak intellectual and literary interests and imparted to his American-Slovak Sisters a vital esteem and appreciation of much that relates to scholarship and multiculturalism.
When you come to the museum you can see the butterfly collection of Fr. Josef Murgas of Wilkes-Barre one of the pioneers of radio as well as pottery and fine glassware. The walls are adorned with works of art by Slovak nationals and their decendants. Figurines demonstrate the culture of Slovakia and manequins model native costumes. There can be found embroidered works, wood carvings, silver chalices and many more items too numerous to describe here. Come see for yourself the wonderful heritage of the Slovakian people. It's closer than you think! |
