SpringSERVE

SpringSERVE is an eight-day service trip, held during Spring Break,  that gives students the opportunity to go to the most popular spring break destinations but for another reason; to participate in volunteer service programs. Weekly meetings begin in December.

The sites that were visited during the previous Spring Break included:
Camden New Jersey
Ridgely Maryland,
Easley South Carolina, and

Students also take part in Collegiate Challenge with Habitat for Humanity.  Students who take part in this are able to put their faith into action, to build partnerships with people sharing a common goal, and gain a greater awareness of the need for decent and affordable housing.  Students are also able to deepen their commitment to social action.  Students who go on these SERVE trips help to build houses from the ground up by helping with the landscaping, siding, interior work and shingling.  The most exciting parts of this trip is when students get to meet the founder for the Habitat for Humanities program, Millard Fuller and get to build the houses with the people who will actually be living in them.

In Mexico, students interact with the community of Nuestra Madre Santierina de la Luz, a Holy Cross-parish in Monterrey.  The trip is about ministry of presence.  The group spends time in conversation with the elderly of the parish, visiting the sick, and helping with the Club de Ninos, an after school program for the children of the parish. The team was immersed in a different culture, and challenged to grow as individuals.  The team shares stories and experiences with the King's College community, in an effort to better understand themselves and their relationships with the people of Mexico.  Monterrey offers us an opportunity to experience a different culture and to apply our classroom learning to a real life setting.
