Tutoring Program
Flood- King's Partnership for Latino/Hispanic Students and their Families

As the community of Wilkes-Barre welcomes more Latino/Hispanic families to the area, Daniel J. Flood Elementary School heavily relies on the Office of Volunteer Services.  The Flood tutoring Program was established to provide individual educational assistance to children from Spanish speaking homes.

The after-school program takes places on the King's Campus  two afternoons a week.  The program consists of:
  • Homework assistance
  • Computer time
  • Reading aide
  • Arts and crafts projects
  • Providing assistance to parents with the translation

The program connects one college student with two elementary school children and establishes a mentoring relationship. The tutoring program is for children in Kindergarten through 6th grade and also employs King's students who qualify for Federal Work Study money.

OVS also coordinates groups of King's students who speak Spanish to translate at the Back-To-School Nights, Parent/Teacher conferences, and Parent Teacher Organization meetings at Flood elementary.

If you are interested in helping in one of the avenues, please contact Dawn Morton at 208-5810
