Wyoming Valley Habitat for Humanity

Volunteer at Wyoming Valley Habitat for Humanity

We rely on the contribution of volunteer efforts for each house we complete. Construction site volunteers (skilled and unskilled) are always needed. There are also other ways to volunteer your time and talent to the Habitat mission. You can help with site selection, family selection and support, fundraising, and public relations.

Ways to Get Involved

Working On Site

We always need construction workers. We build every Saturday from 9:00am-4pm. For specific locations, directions, and to schedule a Saturday please contact our office at 570-820-8002, or at volunteer@wv-hfh.org. Please insert “VOLUNTEER” in the subject line.

All tools, safety glasses, and dust masks are furnished on the job site. If you have special tools that you prefer to use, please feel free to bring them. Lunch is served on Saturdays.

Supply Lunch

Lunch is a highlight for the Saturday volunteers. Workers take a break from building to enjoy good food in the company of the volunteers. Lunches that have been prepared by individuals and groups have included chili, soup, sandwiches, cookies and soda. Several local restaurants have donated lunches for the Saturday volunteers. We are looking for groups to help with lunches.

Join a Committee

Building Committee
Works with our site supervisor to manage construction.

Family Selection & Support
Reviews and interviews partner-family applicants and mentors those families who become partners.

Fund Raising
Works to gather donations and develop creative ways to help fund our projects.

Public Relations
Produces our newsletter and works with the media to publicize our work. There are usually 12 – 20 appreciative workers at the site. It is a great way to meet some wonderful volunteers and watch the house progress. Job sites are often dusty and dirty so please dress appropriately with old clothes and sturdy shoes.
